IHF.OR.ID, CILACAP – Until now, the concepts and theories of character education that are instilled at the early childhood education and Kindergarten levels have not been fully implemented in everyday life. This was conveyed by the founder of the Indonesian Heritage Foundation (IHF), Sofyan A. Djalil, when giving the closing speech of the grand training, with the theme, “Character Education Practices and Scientific Approaches that Successfully Build Morals, Critical Thinking, and Children’s Creativity”, at Graha Pemuda Building, General Sudirman Streets, Cilacap, Thursday, August 24th, 2017.
“This activity aims to open the mindset. The most important thing is how to make preschool teachers full of love for children. Because the first key is how to create empathy for students,” he said.
In front of 1,200 training participants, Sofyan Djalil, who is Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning in President Joko Widodo’s working cabinet, revealed that character education in Indonesia has actually been delivered to students from preschool until college, through the Religion Subject and Civic Education.
According to Sofyan Djalil, the material presented over the years through these two subjects have been very good. However, the implementation has not yet reached the behavioral level. So, through the training, the training participants gain an understanding of the application of character education for children.
“If children receive an education that full of love from an early age, they will grow up full of self-confidence with good character,” he added.
This Grand Training was organized by the IHF in collaboration with the Working Cabinet Era Solidarity Action Organization (OASE KK), the Cilacap Regency PKK Mobilization Team, the Association of Educators and Early Childhood Education Personnel (Himpaudi) Cilacap Regency, the Indonesian Kindergarten Teachers Association (IGTKI) Cilacap, and PT Sumber Segara Primadaya (S2P).
